1st jazz vocal lesson
It was interesting. Took me about an hour to get to the place from the city and an hour from home to the city. And last night it took me roughly 2 hours to figure out how to get there and which buses to use. Went early and ended up to be an hour early so I had to wait till my lesson time.
As I pictured, the teacher was an old lady but from the phone she doesn't sound as old as she looks. She had a little chiwawa and she told me to totally ignore the dog and not look at her in the eye to prevent her from barking. Funny but yea.
She's a lovely lady. Loads of laughs and does different voices. I've actually learnt from her. Kinda scary coz she kept asking me questions and I didn't know what to answer most of the time(dunno what kinda answers she want). Her major used to be piano as well until her hands sorta went bad and bad as in slanted which looked retarded when I saw it. I didn't realize it until she told me about it.
There was heaps to learn to be honest in the 1st lesson. In jazz, they don't really use vibrato. That was hard for me coz vibrato is natural for me so it took heaps of thinking to control my lyranx to unvibrato it. Sounded strain and it wasn't easy to sing. I'll have to work not not using sooo much vibrato.
Have to practice improvising and telling stories in a song. That's like damn hard for me. But nothing is easy.....
