Friday the 13th

Friday the 13th - Lorraine Chai

written and sung by Lorraine Chai

V1: I smell fear
I hear silence in the air
I sense the presence of magic here
That’s all I have to say
People being extra careful
Staying home staying safe
Doing nothing
But biting their nails
and waiting for the day to end

Friday the 13th
My favorite most lucky day
Abit of spices, goos and hagrid’s hair
Cows blood and rabbits foot
Making potions and writing spells
Playing tricks, causing chaos in town
It’s Friday the 13th
Fun Friday the 13th

V2: Black cats and mirrors
And the colour black
You won’t wanna cross their path
Or break them into tiny little pieces
To see them walk around ladders
Throwing a pinch of salt over their shoulder
I laugh till I cry
Just watching them by the corner.

Jazz Festival Sydney 2008

It's FABULOUS....
Runs 7-9th June 2008
venue at darling harbor
I went for the 1st day and am LOVING it =)
Didn't go today coz fren insisted I stay home since I had a really bad migraine by the end of the whole thing yesterday. But definitely going tmr although I have an exam on tues.
There were more than 4 stages. 1 of them was on water which was absolutely cool. My jazz teacher was conducting 1 of the big bands which was from the conservatorium (my uni.
Was listening to the recording I had of 1 of the performance and I felt like writing again. DAMN!!!!!! That can't happen since I have an exam on tuesday and 4 scores to study. Resisting all temptation. Thank God I don't have a guitar in my room. I said I'd write for me and my fren to sing and play and I had all these ideas flow through my head....
ok ok.. I better stop rattling about it before I really ACTUALLY start writing. Here are a few pics.

There were times (Would you Lord)

I know I'm not suppose to write any songs being busy with uni and exams but I couldn't help it. I kept hearing tunes in my head. Wrote this last night. I'm not much of a lyrics person but this is what I came up with. It joins into 'Would you Lord'.
Hope you enjoy it =)
I'll upload the video on youtube in 24 hours. Just click on the title.

There were times (would you Lord) - Lorraine Chai

There were times when life was simple
There were times when it was not
In this great big universe of ours
Things would never be so perfect
There are places full of suffering
People feeling scared and hurt
And all I could ever think about is slavery and war.

Ohhh Jesus, You held my hand
Ohhh Jesus, You have a plan for me to do what’s right
To make a difference in this world

There were times I’d feel so worthless
Being handicapped in this world
Losing loved ones in battle
Giving up after every failure
There is more through life than this
Would you feed us the bread of life?
And let us drink the living water
So we’d have everlasting life

There are many things I’d wish for
And many things I’d hold on to
I’d keep finding the key of truth
To open my heart out to the world
There are many things I’d think about
And many won’t understand
Hoping things would be simpler
Keeping an open mind and wonder….

Ohhh Jesus, You held my hand
Ohhh Jesus, You have a plan for me to do what’s right
To make a difference in this world
Would your love bring me home?

Would you Lord, Take a look at our hands
Everything we had, Use if for your plan
Would you lord, take a look at our hearts
Mold it; refine it, as you set us apart

We want to come to the altar and catch the fire
To stand in the gap between the living and the dead
Give us a heart of compassion
For a world without vision
We will make a difference
Bringing hope to our Land

And I’ll offer out my shoulder for others to cry on
There are millions still searching for your treasure
There were times when I felt lost
Like a lost sheep from the herd
You led your people across the red sea
Freeing them from slavery

We want to come to the burning bush
And catch on the fire
Standing in the gap between what’s right and what is wrong
Give us a heart of compassion
For a world without vision
For we will make a difference
Bringing hope to this world.

Dean's Annual Gala Concert 2008

We performed on both nights
30th May (Friday) @ 6pm
31st May (Saturday) @ 4pm

The only shitty thing is this concert is suppose to be done by the Sydney Conservatorium Symphony Orchestra but we the Chamber choir had to help them out by just singing 2 min of 2nd half of the program. We had to sit on the stage for 40 minutes then wait for que to sing for only 2min.
To makes matters even sweet, list of chamber choir was not on the booklet but rather on a separate sheet.

He told us to sing quieter but the audience said they cud hardly hear us. And at the end of the concert, the conductor introduced each section of the orchestra and left us out which made us look quite stupid and dumb. As a musician I felt insulted and unappreciated. Although we only sang for 2min, we weren't suppose to do this performance and we were helping out. The least they could do was acknowledge our effort and help.
We sang this piece:
Bela Bartok(1881-1945)
The Miraculous Mandarin Op. 19

And yes, when we 1st heard the name we thought of the mandarin fruit. Sounds really weird. Google about this piece and you'll be thinking 'what the heck!'
